The First Baptist Church of Chattanooga is Cooperative Baptist Fellowship congregation, committed to the freedom: of a personal relationship through Jesus Christ; of personal interpretation of scripture guided by the Holy Spirit: of recognizing God's call on one's life regardless of gender, race or age; of the local church to decide on it's own how the Spirit guiding; of the church and state to function completely independent of the other.

First Baptist Church History

Behind every institution there are people. This is especially true of a church, for a church is a body of believers, the body of Christ. In the beginning of First Baptist Church, there was one person, Matthew Hillsman, a young merchant who owned a store at Ross's Landing and was also an ordained Baptist minister.
